Accommodations Plans

The EDEAQ offers four lodging options:

Homestay (host family), incl. breakfast (half board upon request).

**Hostel [Los Andes] (very good backpacker standard), incl. breakfast.

***Hostel [Las Mercedes] (standard middle class hostel), incl. breakfast.

***Hotel [Tierra Sur] (very good middle class hotel), incl. breakfast (half board upon request).

Please note that tuition (classes) without accommodation is

of course available as well (refer to „Prices and Services“).

Homestay (host family)

Homestay with an urban middle class family in a single room with private bathroom/shower-WC: For students travelling together: a double/twin bedded room or two single rooms (the two students share one private bathroom/shower-WC) are available. Desktop computer with internet access (WiFi) are available. – In principle, the EDEAQ student is the only non-native Spanish speaking student in his/her host family. This principle does not apply when two students (travelling together) stay together (either in a double/twin-bedded room or in two single rooms) - in such as case, the EDEAQ reserves the right to accommodate a third non-native Spanish speaking student with the same host family.

The EDEAQ host families live in safe and quiet neighbourhoods (Cayma, Yanahuara, Vallecito, Umacollo, Selva Alegre, etc.), fairly near the city centre/the school, thus short commutes of ten minutes or less may be necessary, either by public buses (“combis”) or by taxi. We recommend the latter: Individual taxis are a common, abundant mode of transport in Arequipa, and they are inexpensive: fares are between USD 1.10/€ 0.80 and USD 1.80/€ 1.35. Walking distances to the school are between 15 and 30 minutes approximately.

An overnight (incl. breakfast), as part of the EDEAQ service package, costs USD 11.00 (single room) or USD 18.00 (twin bedded/double room). Half board/additional meals upon request, i.e. USD 3.50 (full meal)/USD 2.00 (snack) per person; please note that lunch and/or dinner may not be available consecutively seven days a week (in particular not on Sundays and/or Public Holidays), i.e. the availability of meals other than breakfast is, in principle, subject to the discretion ot your hosts. – Laundry: USD 2.00 per load.

A minimum stay of four nights is required, i.e. the package price will include a minimum of four nights, regardless of whether the actual stay is one or two or three nights only.

The contact details of the host family will be forwarded to booked students a few days before their arrival in Arequipa. Please be aware that the availability of suitable host families is limited during the summer holidays season (January and February).

.

The biggest advantage of a home stay is that you will only communicate with the family in Spanish. This means that you will be practising Spanish constantly while you are living with the family. This will also be a great opportunity for you to get to know about Peru and Arequipa and how a typical Arequipa middle class family lives.
