The EDEAQ offers four lodging options:

Homestay (Host Family), incl. breakfast.
**Hostel [Hostal Los Andes] (very good backpacker standard), incl. breakfast. Located in the same building as the School.
***Hostel [Hostal Las Mercedes] (cozy standard middle class hostel), incl. breakfast.
***Hotel [Hotel Tierra Sur] (very good middle class hotel), incl. breakfast.

Please note that tuition (classes) without accommodation is of course available as well (refer to „Prices and Services“).

Homestay (Host Family)

Homestay with an urban middle class family in a single room with private bathroom/shower-WC: For students travelling together: a double/twin bedded room or two single rooms (the two students share one private bathroom/shower-WC) are available. – WiF is available, in some cases a desktop or laptop computer as well.

Normally, the EDEAQ student is the only non native Spanish-speaking student in his/her host family. The EDEAQ reserves however the right to accommodate in one host family more than one EDEAQ student, and the host family has the right to accommodate other non native Spanish-speaking and/or native Spanish speaking students/house guests.

The EDEAQ host families live in safe and quiet neighbourhoods (Cayma, Yanahuara, Vallecito, Umacollo, Selva Alegre, etc.), fairly near the city centre/the School, thus short commutes of 10 to 15 minutes or less may be necessary, either by public buses (“combis”) or by taxi. We recommend the latter: Individual taxis are a common, abundant mode of transport in Arequipa, and they are inexpensive: fares are between S/. 5.00 and S/. 7.00. Walking distances to the school are between 5 and 30 minutes approximately.

An overnight (incl. breakfast), as part of the EDEAQ service package, costs USD 13.00 for a single room (with private bathroom/shower-WC) or USD 22.00 (i.e. USD 11.00 per person) for a twin bedded/double room (with private bathroom/shower-WC). – Laundry: USD 3.00 per load.

Half board/additional meals upon request – USD 3.50 (full meal)/USD 2.50 (snack) per person. Please note that lunch and/or dinner may not be available consecutively seven days a week (in particular not on Sundays and/or Public Holidays), i.e. the availability of meals other than breakfast is, in principle, subject to the discretion of the hosts. You have access to the kitchen, which means: you can prepare small (cold) meals, warm up take away/prepared dishes, using plates, cutlery, cups/glasses, etc., and make use (partially) of the refrigerator as well. – Important: Even if you are not a guest of the Hostal Los Andes (which is located in the same building as the EDEAQ, on the same floor), you can use its facilities (kitchen/cafeteria) to prepare your own meals or warm up take away/prepared dishes at lunch time or in the evening, using plates, cutlery, cups/glasses, etc., and make use of the refrigerator and the microwaves. Please note that the small ingredients (such as salt and pepper, herbs, spices, oil, vinegar, sugar, etc.) are supposed to come out of your own pocket.

A minimum stay of four days is required, i.e. the package price will include a minimum of four overnights, regardless whether the actual stay is one or two or three overnights only.

The contact details of the host family will be forwarded to booked students approx. four days before their arrival in Arequipa.

During the summer holiday season (mid-December to early March) the availability of host families is limited.

Hostal Los Andes

Please note that the Hostal Los Andes is located in the same building as the School (address: Calle La Merced 123), approx. 50 m from the Plaza de Armas (Main Square). It is very quiet because the Calle La Mertced is car free zone.

EDEAQ’s preferential rates for its students are shown on “Prices and Services”. Please note that the discounts (in comparison with the tariffs/”rack rates” published by the Hostal Los Andes) EDEAQ can grant are between approx. 10% and 40%, but be aware that these preferential rates only apply as long as you book and pay through the EDEAQ – i.e. before you contact the Hostal Los Andes, talk to us!

Important. Even if you are not a guest of the Hostal Los Andes (which is located in the same building as the EDEAQ, on the same floor), you can use its facilities (kitchen/cafeteria) to prepare your own meals or warm up (take-away/prepared) dishes at lunch time or in the evening, using plates, cutlery, cups/glasses, etc., and make use of the refrigerator and the microwaves. Hostal Las Mercedes

Hotel Tierra Sur
