End of the Year 2023 ( / 2024)

Last course day in 2023 is Friday 22 December. Officially, the EDEAQ is closed over Christmas/New Year. First course day in 2024 is Monday 08 January. – For students who would like to extend/begin their language course/stay beyond/after 22 December 2023 and into 2024, individual arrangements, however, can possibly be made.

Course Types

Private Classes (One-to-One Lessons). Instruction is held in the context of the six performance levels mentioned below (subtitle “Performance Levels”), or in accordance with student requirements. – Starting date/day of the course can be chosen freely (whenever possible it should be a Monday).

DELE Preparation Courses. Special courses (individual classes [one-to-one lessons]) of between 20 and 30 lessons per week) for students who would like to prepare for the “Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera” (DELE). – Starting date/day of the course can be chosen freely (whenever possible it should be a Monday).

Small Group Classes. Instruction is held on the six performance levels mentioned below (subtitle “Performance Levels”). Minimum duration: one week (five consecutive days – four lessons of 55 min. per day), beginning on a Monday. – If on a specific performance level, a group (minimum: 2 students) cannot be formed, 14½ (Standard) or 17¼ (Intensive I) or 20 (Intensive II) one-to-one lessons per week will be held (without price increase).

Starting Dates 2023: 21 August, 04 + 18 September, 09 + 23 October, 06 + 20 November, 04 + 18 December.

“Affinity Group” Classes. “Affinity Grouo” means: the participants know each other, most likely they are travelling together and/or arrive together in Arequipa. They book the course together forming a small group of their own.  – „Affinity Group“ also means: starting date, course duration and performance level are supposed/ought to be identical for all participants (minimum: two; maximum: five). – Instruction is held in the context of the six performance levels mentioned below (subtitle “Performance Levels”) or in accordance with group requirements. – Starting date/day of the course can be chosen freely (whenever possible it should be a Monday).

Course Duration

Standard Course. 20 lessons per week (five days; one lesson = 55 min.), during one, two, three or more weeks.

Intensive Course I. 24 lessons per week (five days; one lesson = 55 min.), during one, two, three or more weeks.

Intensive Course II. 28 lessons per week (five days; one lesson = 55 min.), during one, two, three or more weeks.

In case of Private Classes, DELE Preparation Courses or “Affinity Group” Classes (see above – subtitle “Course Types”), starting days other than a Monday and a course duration of less than five consecutive days and/or 20 lessons per week may be considered.

One-Day Courses. Minimum: two lessons per day (a lesson is 55 min.). Additional lessons upon request/agreement.

Bildungsurlaub (“Leave for Further Education”). Number of lessons per day: six (a lesson is 60 min.). Number of course days per week: five. – Please also refer to www.edeaq.com/wp/de/bildungsurlaub

Course Days

Course days are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Classes on Saturdays and/or Sundays are – in principle – possible, but cannot be guaranteed.

Timetable / Class Schedules

09:10 h – 10:05 h / 10:10 h – 11:05 h / 11:25 h – 12:20 h / 12:25 h – 13:20 h. – A lesson is 55 minutes. – In exceptional cases, the morning lessons begin at 08:10 h or at 10:10 h or at 11:25 h. – Afternoon lessons begin at 14:00 h or at 15:00 h or at 16:00 h. – If circumstances make it necessary, classes (entirely or partially) may be shifted/rescheduled (also at short notice) from morning to the afternoon. – The School strives to meet any possible individual requests of their students with regard to class schedules.

Performance Levels

Classes are held on six performance levels, according to the classification of the “Common European Framework of Reference for Languages” (CERF): Beginner I + II, intermediate I + II, Advanced I + II. – For a description of the six levels, click here.

The most important components of the language training are grammar and syntax (structure), basic vocabulary (tools), vocabulary extension, idiomatic terms, reading and conversation, listening comprehension, and pronunciation.

Beginning with Intermediate l, teaching may take place outside the classroom, i.e. practical field exercises are held (how to telephone, shop, or to be able to resolve breakdown situations, as for example with a car, etc.).

Placement Test and Certificate of Participation

During the first lesson, each student whose performance level is Beginner I/II or higher will complete a placement test that determines the level at which he/she will be placed. – Certificate of Participation upon request.

Public Holidays

Lessons falling on workdays (Monday through Friday) that are public holidays are held, whenever possible and in accordance with the wishes of the student(s) and the availability the teacher(s), a) either on that given day or b) before or after.
